Deity animal rescue project

Things are getting really ruff over at Deity Animal Rescue and other shelters across the state, according to an email we recently received.

“LA shelters are at capacity levels like we have genuinely never seen. They are all maxed. We are receiving countless pleas not only from networkers but from the shelters themselves (which is rare)- and not just from LA county and city shelters- we're getting them from literally all over California.

The fourth of July always causes spikes in shelter populations. No matter what- this is a known and accepted truth. The rise in shelter population means that space will need to be made, and decisions will need to happen. The only way to make space when you don't have dogs leaving is to euthanize them- and this is what the shelters will do. Both to the dogs already there, and to the dogs who are coming in and need a spot. There is no other option.

To put it simply, we are desperate for help. We need fosters. We need those of you who applied with the best intentions and the purest hearts to step up and open your home to a dog (or two!) who just needs a chance. The alternative, as I mentioned, is death. It's brutal and painful and ugly to read those words- but that is what this has come to.”

Here at ONA we love to help make the world a better place, and from time to time, something comes across our desks that really tugs at the heartstrings. Or in this case, leashes.

This is preventable. Please help us save as many lives as we can by making space in your home for an innocent animal that does not deserve to die. For those on vacation or planning to travel soon, note that on your application.

But if we’re barking up the wrong tree and you’re more of a cat person, consider donating to our GoFundMe and sending this to a dog lover you know. If you have friends or family who have expressed interest in fostering, let them know that this is the time. We need all the help we can get.
